Who They Are and What They Do


A summary of findings from the 2006 survey of
13,196 current and former temporary and contract
employees from 186 American Staffing Association member firms found the following:

* 77% said the opportunity to find a permanent job was an important reason why they chose temporary or contract work.


* Nearly two-thirds said temporary or contract work helped them develop new or improved work skills (65%) or gain on-the-job experience (64%).


* 56% said that temporary or contract work helped them get their foot in the door for a permanent job


*60% said their work is helping to strengthen their resume
* 23% work for staffing firms for lifestyle reasons.


* 64% report that their work allows for flexible work time and time for their family.


* 42% have at least some college education; 32% have received a bachelor's or postgraduate degree.


* 90% said they are satisfied with their current staffing firm.


* 88% would refer a friend or relative to work as a temporary or contract employee.
